Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM): Mountain Community Program development
Numerous associations have banded together under the Mountain Community CISM Program to provide a volunteer run, peer support network for our individual and operational members. The peer support course is happening this month with the CSGA sending one member to participate. Other CSGA members will be participating under the sponsorship of additional associations. In addition, we have received interest from other members of the CSGA with prior CISM experience to be involved in the development of this amazing program. We are currently in the works to offer a broader based educational component that would focus on what stress looks like, how to manage personally as well as how to support your team. We hope to be able to offer a general enrollment course as well as provide information to operations so they can book these sessions for staff training. The sessions are available online or in person and the hope is to have something in place for the start of this season. Please contact me with any questions [email protected]
CSGA / CAA Practicing and Professional Membership Application Equivalency Tables
Have you wanted to become a member of the CAA but been overwhelmed by the application process? The CAA recognizes the hard work and training it takes to achieve certification from the CSGI courses. Many of the competencies that are required to be demonstrated for Practitioner or Professional Membership in the CAA are examined in the CSGI Level 2 and Level 3 courses. If you are a current member of the CSGA in good standing (dues paid and recurrent training up to date) then you are eligible to apply with a reduced competency table. This means you will only need to show proof of competency in a few areas that either aren’t examined on course or are better left to describe from a workplace perspective. The CSGA and CAA have worked hard over the summer to bring this opportunity to you as a member.
Why should you be a member of the CAA?
As a guide, working in the industry it is your professional responsibility to be a member of the associations that support your work through government relations, education and creation of industry best practices. It is a requirement of your employment in a mechanized operation to be a current member of the CSGA. This line of work requires you to be a practicing or professional member of the CAA as well. In addition to all the great supports the CAA provides it also allows you to teach AST 1 and / or AST 2 courses with a membership.
If you would like to apply as a Level 2 or 3 CSGA member please contact [email protected] to request the appropriate membership application.
In addition, the format of the CAA application has changed – hopefully making it easier to navigate the application process. The new application process for Practitioner is due to be released September 1, while the Professional process is due for release on September 15.
The CAA plans to host tips and tricks information sessions on the process mid September and mid October. Stay tuned to their website for more info.
