17:00 – 18:00 MT $20	Dr. Sydney White	Hypothermia: Current protocols, management and real world strategies. Hypothermia – a review on the background principals of why hypothermia is a medical concern and isn’t just simply being cold. Followed by update on current hypothermia management and ECLS guidelines including the Hope Score. Plus a quick review of some of the strategies being used by various industry members at their operations. Dr. Sydney White has worked as a pro patroller and with BC ambulance and SAR. She currently teaches AST 1 courses and tail guides for Retallack. Sydney is the Medical Director for both Retallack and PEAK. She has recently completed the CSGA Level 1 and CAA Level 2 and is working on her fellowship in Wilderness Medicine.
18:00 – 19:00 MT $20	Tony Walker	Scary or dangerous? Understanding the difference between emotion vs logic. As a helicopter passenger performing as crew, you have a front seat to the action, relying on the pilot to get you there safely. But what does “safely” look like? It comes down to understanding the difference between scary and dangerous. In the guiding world, scary for the uninitiated could be rappelling down a cliff face, a safe and secure endeavour. On the other hand, dangerous could be happily traversing across the glacier on a warm spring day with hidden snow bridges ready to collapse. Feeling that a situation is scary makes us react with fear and emotion whereas danger is hazard, perceived with logic and awareness. This session will discuss what to look for and how to manage your responses to situations that could seen as either scary or dangerous. Tony Walker has been flying helicopters for 34 years mostly in the Coast Mountains of Northwestern BC with 10 heli ski seasons. He has a Masters of Education and teaches a Helicopter Awareness Training course and Crew Resource Management education to BC Hydro.
19:15 – 20:30 MT $20	Don Schwartz	Beating the Impossible – Living, Managing and Moving Past PTSD What is Trauma? How do our bodies deal with it and what are some techniques and resources to help us recover from a traumatic event? This is a great opportunity to learn that PTSD need not be a life long ailment and needing help to recover is normal and not a sign of weakness. Don Schwartz has been a Helicopter Ski Guide for the past 28 years with MW Heliskiing and Powder Mountain Catskiing. Don has made a movie and written a book about his experiences with PTSD, which came to a head as he studied to become a helicopter pilot.

The presentation outlines the 3 main development targets of product safety, product weight and ease of use. Several steps were taken to improve functional features of this product for both the recreational user and professionals in the field… Get an inside look at the lightest electronic airbag system in the world! Patrick has 18 years of expertise as product manager in the sporting goods industry designing freeride and touring skis. For the last 5 years he has been working for Ortovox and is responsible for the development of the new electronic airbag system LiTRIC in cooperation with the Canadian brand Arc’teryx. Born and raised in Oberstdorf, one of Germanys big ski resorts, Patrick now resides in Munich with his family and is still a true skier by heart.
11:00 – 12:30 MT $20	Kerry Ann Suteu	Developing Resiliency Through Life’s Challenges This interactive workshop will provide the participant with an understanding of mental health and well-being, and how to stay well in the avalanche industry. The program will cover ways to be more self-aware of our reaction to stress and traumatic events, how to assess our mental well-being, and provide practical tools and strategies to maintain resiliency. The instructor will provide a toolkit and resources to explore for managing mental health and well-being on and off the slopes. Kerry Ann Suteu is a registered Occupational Therapist who practices psychotherapy at Gowan Consulting. Kerry Ann’s background is in kinesiology, health, and fitness. She completed her Occupational Therapy training at the University of Western Ontario.
2:00 – 3:00 MT $Free	Stuart Smith	Info Ex: New App Launch An introduction to the newly launched (planned to happen before Oct 19th) InfoEx desktop and mobile apps. The session should be relevant for all InfoEx users, or potential InfoEx users. Some content will be specifically for InfoEx operation administrators. Stuart Smith is the InfoEx Manager at the Canadian Avalanche Association.
16:00 – 17:15 MT $20	Uwe Gramenn	Pattern Recognition in Meteograms Meteograms, the display of multiple forecast weather parameters in time series, have recently become a very popular and useful decision making tool for avalanche operations worldwide. Traditionally, meteograms are evaluated based on the absolute numbers alone. In this presentation, we will look at the general behaviour and patterns of these parameters and how they interact with each other. We will unlock this additional information to increase the understanding of the underlying data and improve the weather related decision-making process in general. Uwe Gramann is a professional meteorologist and the practice area lead for climate and weather at RWDI. Uwe started his career with Environment Canada, where he helped develop the currently operational high-resolution GEM LAM weather model, and then moved on to form his own weather consulting company, where he developed the AlpineFX. Uwe developed weather courses for a variety of applications including the Canadian Avalanche Association before joining RWDI, where he currently overlooks the technical development and innovation for the applied climatology and weather forecasting teams.

Queer Education Foundation

Micro-aggressions Join Victoria and Anda from the Queer Education Foundation to learn about micro-aggressions. They will describe what they are, their impact, and how to recognize these instances in your everyday life. After which they will share real-life experiences to provide context, and offer strategies to help address micro-aggressions in your communities and workplace, through bystander intervention.
